Well, the good news had to end sometime, right?

It is, after all, Mr. LastChance and I.

So the embryologist left their message. 26 retrieved, 18 mature, 6 fertilized normally.

From 18 to 6--pretty sad eh?

But you know what? I didn't even cry. I told you I had a better attitude this go around.

Two more matured and they ICSId them today, so we'll see how those look tomorrow.

Here's the kicker: after five IVFs, that's the MOST embryos we've ever had from one cycle. So see? It's not all bad.

And if two or three of those grow into good embryos we'll be happy.

I waited this long to post because Dr. M said she'd call tonight to touch base. No call so far, and it's now 8 pm CC.R.M. time. Hmmmmmm...another poor fert report and she doesn't call? Just kidding. She's been more than available to us this go around. And really, what can she add at this point?

All I can hope is that this time, the eggs looked better, so maybe we'll have better embryos. And maybe we'll transfer them into a more hospitable uterus, one that isn't hyperplasic with unopposed estrogen, one that's been roughed up a wee bit by an endometrial biopsy or two.

You don't have to blow sunshine...I'm really ok. Mr. LastChance cheered and said: "It's three times as many as we had last time!"

This is why I love him.

So it didn't turn out to be a miracle cycle, but it is far from over.

  1. six is an awesome number, six is five more than you need for one baby....unless you are going for your own TV show, which after all this you might need to pay for it, so maybe that is an idea after all...(kidding aside, I REALLY want this for you guys...sending good thoughts from Alabama)

  3. You're still in the game, girl! And I aint blowin' sunshine. =)

It seems that you and Lee are doing leaps and bounds better this go-around (both with egg maturity/fert and positive attitudes).

I'll be praying for the Super Six tonight (and the two stragglers)!

  4. Okay. Well it's not 18, but it's more than before. More than ever before.

And all it takes is one. One normal embryo. Hoping hoping hoping that the six do well, look good, and you have a choice about what to transfer when the time comes.

And I hope Dr. M does call. I know she's given you lots of time, but when they say they'll call, they should call.

  5. Six is AWESOME! Seriously, maybe it doesn't sound so great, going from 26 to 18 to 6, but it's the 6 that count- the most ever! Oh, grow little guys, grow! I'm thinking about you all the time.

  6. You're still in the ring & fighting with six. There's still more rounds to go, so take it as it comes and go with your instincts. I would say something about a right-left hook combination (or is it left-right?) as I know you like sports analogies, but that's as far as I can take it. Thinking about you all (2 + 2 + 1 + 6 + 2 + 1 + embryologist(s) + lab person(s)).

  9. The numbers are daunting, to be sure, but forget about what you started with. Six is a great number to fertilize. Quality not quantity should be your mantra. Mr. LastChance is right to be excited! Hugs!

  10. it still sounds very promising to me! :)

  11. Six is a good number! It doesn't look great when you start with 18, but that part is over. You have six that fertilized "normally" and that is more than enough. I am praying for great quality for you. You really do have a chance here.

  15. Disappointing after the 24 to 18 yes, but a done deal-NO WAY! 6 is a decent number and like Mr. LC said it's three times as many as in the past and that's success in my book. It only takes one right? If we were all normal we'd be dying if we produced 6 eggs in any one cycle. It's all a matter of perspective, I suppose. Besides, I'm definitely the fat lady these days and I have NOT started singing and I have no plans to do so. Just keep yourself on that even keel and take things as they come. Go embies, go! Each day I can't wait to check this blog out and each day I take a soothing breath after I read your entry and know that you are checking off each step as you go. One step at a time, one breath at a time. I'll be watching the blog for more!

  23. No sunshine - just the truth...6 is a great number and I am one of those ones who had less than 6 so you are far from being out of the game at this point. They said that the eggs looked a lot better than before so prettier eggs should mean prettier embryos right? I'm glad you feel better about it this go around.
