Excuses, and a request.

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Work has been insane, and I've been working a lot from home in the off hours. Sux.

My hard drive died on my laptop last week. It was.not.backed.up. Please, no lectures. All our pictures are on it...all of them. All of my writing was on it. All of our taxes were on it (well, we have hard copies and bulky files full of medical receipts, but...) I have not yet had time to take it to a data recovery place, but I'm anticipating very little recovery for very many dollars. Sigh.

And oh yeah--I lost all my bookmarks. Yes, that was the way I followed blogs. I'm so hopelessly behind, trying to find people again. Yeah, I've heard of google reader. I know.

I have been posting in my head quite a bit but it never quite gets back here. What?? You can't read my mind?

In the past I've sent you to a friend's blog when she was having a tough time. She's a real life fertile friend who has supported me in countless ways along my journey. Her amazing son was officially diagnosed with autism recently, and she started a new blog to document his journey. She's an incredible Mom but this is a tough time, full of mixed emotions. If you have a second, drop by and give her support.

I promise to find you all again, and I promise to get my butt in gear and start writing again--funny as it seems, I still have a lot to say. The latter part of that last sentence is sarcastic, just in case you didn't catch it.

  2. Bummer a out you hard drive. DH's laptop took a fall last week from the couch thanks tour good cat. It seems the 2 foot drop damaged the HD and now it's not readable. *sigh* so no lectures here.

Sorry your friend is having such a rough time.

Can't wait till you are back. Even though we seem to read each other's mind, I still enjoy reading!

  3. This is a blog I follow. She is a fertile whose daughter has a rare bone disease. It's one of the most touching blogs I've ever read. http://eviejayne.blogspot.com/

  4. Oh that sucks that you lost all of the contents on your computer! Our main computer crashed last week and I had all of my pics on an external hard drive, but nothing else. So annoying! Glad you are back!

  5. What a frustrating situation with both your busy work schedule and your PC on the fritz. That has happened to us once before as well. Hope your work life slows down a bit soon!

  6. Good luck with your hard drive, seems a lot of people are having computer problems lately. Losing pictures is what always scares me the most.
Getting caught up on posting and just wanted to say that I COULD NOT BELIEVE the woman you encountered in your last post "Are you sure". I'm not sure what I would have said to her face but most surely would have mumbled some profanity as I walked away. :)

  11. Uuuugh...a lost hard drive. Happened to me last year. I felt lost for days until I got my computer back....not that I got all of it back. Also lost all my tax stuff and had to redo all my excel files, etc. So sorry. It's a BIG pain in the arse.

  13. It's a amazing what can be recovered these days, so maybe there's a little hope. Good luck!

That's also sad to hear about your friend's son. I know four people whose children are autistic, and what strikes me is that I knew no one with autism growing up. Another medical mystery that needs to be solved.

  17. Man does a laptop crash just ruin things!! Besides the loss of time, frustration, and cost of fixing/replacing, there is the loss of data such as precious pictures. I am so sorry this happened!! I hope they can recover somethign for you!!

  18. Oh no! I'm so sorry your hard drive crashed - what a nightmare. If it makes you feel any better, if it wasn't for DH (and his entire family) being a computer geek, none of my stuff would be backed up either. Actually, come to think of it, if it wasn't for him I'd probably still be on a Commodore 64 with a dot matrix printer... :-) I hope the computer place is able to recover more than you're expecting.

  19. Ah - the wonders of technology! Must do some more reading on your friend's blog. I have taught quite a few children with ASD and have loved all of them. Her description of him in the header sums it up for me. I feel very strongly that whatever has been taken away from these children in terms of their social abilities, has been given back in other ways - the children I have taught, though all different, each had their own special talent or skill or range of them.
